What do we do when it dawns on us that God may not be the sort of god that we want him to be? What do we do when we are alerted to the gulf that exists between the things that we care about and the things that God cares about? That’s what Jonah 4 is about. In this chapter we see how God calls our convictions into question. God’s compassion challenges our passions, asking us how deeply our hearts resemble his.

[Preaching Note: This particular service was memorably interrupted by a distraught homeless person. The security guard was trying to evict him from the service and an argument began. While it was distracting at first, the tension it evoked actually forced us all to live out the sermon in real time.]
