Vagueness in our beliefs about God is not merely an affliction of the young and the restless. It reflects a much larger uncertainty in our culture towards ideas of God. And there are many reasons for this. For one thing, when we encounter the diversity of religious perspectives in our culture, it can make our faith feel fragile. How can we know for sure? Others of us wonder if it really matters. I mean, as long as you are kind to others and don’t hurt anyone; do specific ideas about God really make a difference?
