Mudder Training, Day 66

By July 6, 2011No Comments

I know I haven’t been posting here very faithfully.  I was gone almost 20 out of 30 days in June on various trips.  My training was also sporadic, but I managed to train at least 3 times per week.  Also, our ultimate frisbee league has started which is incredible interval/sprint training.

But here are some of the workouts I’ve been doing lately.

I. Last Friday, I worked out with four guys, and after working up to a 1RM for snatch (155#) we did a workout that was like Tabata meets FGB.  (Tabata is :20 of work followed by :10 of rest, FGB is a workout where we count max reps).  Here’s what we did:

1. Power Cleans (95#)/Ring Dips/Wall Balls/Burpees (1 min each then rotate)

Rest one minute, then repeat.

2. Box Jumps/Sumo Deadlift High Pull/Ring Pushups/Weighted Sit Up

Rest one minute, then repeat.

Everyone was on their back by the end. Who knew that two eight-minute workouts could crush you like that?

II. Yesterday, I began last week’s 800m run programming.

Run 800 meters (3:30)

30 snatches (95#) (5:00)

Run 800 meters (3:45)

III. Today it was pretty hot, and it shows in my 800 time.

Run 800 meters (4:15)

30 muscle-ups (12:10). I can’t hang the rings any higher than my pull-up bar, so I had to do the muscle-ups from a seated position on the floor. Not as hard as strict muscle-ups, but still pretty hard.

Run 800 meters (4:20)

I like the 800 run because it is short enough to push the pace and long enough to focus on cleaning up my running stride.

The Tough Mudder is only a couple of weeks away.  I am excited to test myself!
